history

The first designated Canberra Winter Solstice Nude Swim was held on 21 June 2017. It was organised by Ian Lindeman and the Williams Crossing Bicycle Club, a not for profit bicycle club. The aim was to do something ‘a bit different’ to refresh spirits and support a good cause. It worked!

Now in its eighth year, the event continues to expand and is now conducted with the approval of the ACT Government. The swim receives support from local community groups and businesses, St John Ambulance, the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club and volunteers.

Ian Lindeman was the founder and driving force for the first swims.

From the start, it was decided that all public donations should go to a charity chosen each year, and without any deductions. That has worked too. Organisers remain unpaid volunteers and all expenses are met by sponsors, partners or individuals. (Thanks due in particular to Old Canberra Inn).

Every cent donated by the public goes to charity. More than $200,000 has been raised to help Lifeline and other charities.
